Qi Gong or sometimes spelled, Chi Kung (pronounced: Chi gung or key gung) means “cultivating life-force or air”. This Chinese art system has been practiced for over 4000 years. The word Chi or Qi references the circulating air, life force within the body and all living things in the universe. The body is a living bioelectricity (Qi) field that is affected by our thoughts, emotions, quality of food, water, air, activities, life-style, the natural energy around us as well as the un-natural modern energies that science forces upon us such as radiation from power lines, cell phones, microwave ovens, nuclear waste, chemicals in food and water, etc., from the cradle to the grave. Because Qi (Chi) is life, if we learn how to regulate it within our daily lives, we will be better equipped to live a longer and much healthier life. It is key (Qi) to remember, that we too are a part of nature so it becomes imperative to flow with the cycles of nature so we don’t develop dis-ease or dis-harmony.

Over time, your energy flow can become blocked, stagnant or reduced due to age and daily stress. Qi Gong enables one to keep their chi free-flowing thus avoiding the loss of control over energy flow best referred to by the West as “aging”. This becomes the way of the Tao(Dao) or The Natural Way. For thousands of years, The Way has been researched while using a myriad of natural healing modalities including Acupuncture, Herbal Treatment, Acupressure or Massage, Meditation, Tai Ji and Qi Gong Exercise(s). The use of Acupuncture, Acupressure and Herbal Treatment to adjust human chi flow are the root to Chinese Medical Science. TaiJi Quan, Qi Gong and other variations of Meditation are widely prescribed as by the Chinese doctors to compliment treatment to aid in improving health and cure illness. A main principle of Qi Gong is to use the mind and physical movements to direct and lead chi circulation in the correct way. The physical movements commonly mimic natural and instinctive movements of animals or of natural human behaviors such as yawning, sighing, laughing or crying.

The focus of Qi Gong is to store Chi within the lower Dan-Tien or Elixir Field also known as your bioelectric battery. The slower you move, the more relaxed the mind becomes and more capable to lead the chi to deeper places of the body, such as ligaments, internal organs and bone marrow. Within this heightened since of meditation the mind becomes even more active in moving Qi while the body moves less. A state of Euphoria is typically discovered while allowing self to fall deeper within its meditative state. Based upon ancient concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoist Jing and Yin Yang Science, the system emphasizes on drawing ones practice from both the spirit and qi, or inner energy to maintain a calm mind and serene heart. Practiced daily, Qi Gong will help to cleanse the body of toxins, reduce stress and restore natural vitality. The goal is to regain the buoyant vitality of childhood, to give the vibrancy of youth with the wisdom and enlightenment of experience.

Join Race Committee and help administer our  Wednesday night (Beer Can) races. No Experience Needed! The Race Committee in sailing is responsible for managing the races, ensuring fairness, safety, and a fun experience for all participants. This includes setting the race course, starting and finishing the races, adjusting the course as needed, and ensuring the safety of the competitors and the Race Committee itself. They also record finish times, potentially abandon races due to weather, and handle protests.

JPYC's beer can races are a low-key, intramural club racing series for anyone interested in sailboat racing.  There will be both a Jib and Main (JAM) and spinnaker section.  The first start is at 7:00 pm and most races will be completed by 9:00pm.

Be sure to grab a meal in the galley before heading out to race.  This year, the Sea Scouts will be managing the galley service and the proceeds will go to the repairs for the Ed Stein.  We will announce the results as soon as possible after the race. The food, drinks, and enthusiastic sailors result in lots of great conversation and fun!
