Have you ever considered racing but don’t know where to start? CASRA (Chicago Area Sail Racing Association) has the CASRA Rookie Regatta Series which is designed to give those new to racing sailboats an opportunity to try their hand at racing in a more relaxed environment. You will not be racing against “serious racers”. You will have easy-to-follow instructions and courses. You will have a “starting window” to ease tensions at the start. No spinnakers are required or allowed. Just a fun time and opportunity to “hone” some sailing skills.
We would like you to attend our Rookie Regatta Skippers Meeting as well as our Racing 101 Seminar on June 26th at 6:30 PM to get started and ask questions so we can help you get out there and race.
What to expect:
Rookie Regatta Skippers’ Meeting:
Overview of the CASRA Rookie Regatta Series
What to expect on race day
Casual Q&A with organizers
Racing 101 Seminar:
An intro to racing for new or casual sailors:
Race documents (Notice of Race & Sailing Instructions)
Common course layouts in Chicago
Starting sequence & race signals
Basic racing rules
Designed for cruisers, casual sailors, and first-time racers
No spinnakers, no pressure—just fun, relaxed racing
Mentors available to sail with you and coach during races
Post-race dock parties at local yacht clubs
One $50 entry fee covers all Rookie Regatta races
Whether you're already signed up or just exploring the idea, this seminar is a great way to learn, ask questions, and meet other new racers.
Still want some help? We have started a mentor program where you can get an experienced racer to ride along and coach you before and during the race. THIS IS THAT PROGRAM!
